Men can get yeast infections so this isn't just a female problem. Oftentimes they are transferred between couples without either person realizing it. This post is about treating yeast infections at home, with natural ingredients.
It surely is not comfortable, and though store brands get rid of the problem quickly, I found it was worth it to take more time doing a home treatment. I got more in tune with my body and feel as though I am now have a deeper understanding of my digestive system.
So here is what you need to understand if you are dealing with this problem...
Yeast overgrowth is a result of an out of balance digestive system. We need good bacteria to protect us from overgrowth of 'bad' bacteria. That is why people suffering form a yeast infection are told to eat a lot of yogurt. Yogurt contains acidopholus, and some contain more live cultures..... But don't just limit yourself to yogurt. Kimchi, kefir, homemade sourdough bread and homemade wine are also a good choice of foods that introduce "good bacteria" into our guts.
Cut out all sugar as much as you can- including honey, molasses, fruit, juice, etc. And limit carbohydrates as they transform into sugars in your body. Eat fresh vegetables and beans.
Now for treatment... I took acidopholus pills several times a day as well as a Candida Clear twice a day (an intestinal health formula with Oau D'Arco, Oregano Oil, Black Walnut and Caprylic Acid). I occasionally used yogurt internally. You can also open acidopholus pills and mix with warm water. This really relieved discomfort, inside and out, and I believe was the most effective treatment I used. The live cultures in the yogurt work to "eat" the yeast inside the vagina, while the pills help support your intestinal flora do their job and bring you back into balance.
It took me about 2 weeks until I experienced no symptoms. I believe it would have taken less time had I been informed at the beginning the best way to heal myself. This is not an easy thing to do. I found that inserting garlic inside the vagina considerably reduced my discomfort, and I don't think I would have made it the natural way if I did not have this relief. Thank you garlic!
WARNING: Just because you stop experiencing symptoms does not mean you do not still have yeast overgrowth! If you are not careful you can easily slip back into the painful reality of a yeast infection. Say no to sex and sugar for at least another week, wash your underwear and towels after each use as they can also spread candida, and as soon as you experience the slightest discomfort listen to your body and take better care of yourself!
